Acupuncture is part of a Naturopathic Doctor’s scope of practice in Ontario. Dr. Jennifer Hendry-Lynn ND has been using acupuncture regularly in her practice for over 10 years to address a number of health concerns.

Acupuncture has been a major part of Asian Medicine for thousands of years, and has been used to treat and prevent illness in millions of people all over the world with good success.

Basically, acupuncture uses very thin needles to stimulate specific points in the body (acupuncture points).

It has been used to treat almost all health concerns, including both acute and chronic illnesses and to promote well-being.

The needles stimulate your energy flow or ‘Qi’.  When your energy becomes stuck, or is not flowing freely throughout the body, we get pain and other physical and mental symptoms.  Left untreated, we can experience debilitation.

Acupuncture helps to balance the energy in the body, allowing the body to function optimally.  Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with other conventional and alternative therapies.

Common Concerns Addressed By Acupuncture include:

  • Fertility
  • Pain/Arthritis
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms
  • Labour Induction
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Stress
  • Sinusitis
  • Ringing in the Ears (Tinnitus)
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Menstrual Irregularities/PMS
  • Hot flashes
  • Low Libido
  • Sore knees/Shoulders/Elbows/Back/Neck
  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Smoking Cessation/Addiction
  • Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Weight Loss
  • And Much More

Does it Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are approximately the width of a human hair and are inserted into specific acupuncture points in the body.  Treatment is virtually painless. Most patients find acupuncture treatments to be highly relaxing and rejuvenating.  All needles are disposable and are used only once.

“Did you know Naturopathic doctors can order lab tests?”

Naturopathic doctors use a combination of conventional and naturopathic laboratory testing, to help undercover the root cause of disease in the body. Blood, saliva, urine, and hair tests can all used to complete the naturopathic assessment.

A Naturopath interprets test results looking for not only pathology, but to optimize health and prevent disease. We also look at where your results fall in the reference range. Laboratory reference ranges are often very broad, therefore not in line with optimal values. Disease can be found when lab values fall outside of the normal reference range, however in order to prevent disease, or to treat sub-clinical disease presentations, it is important to look at lab values when they are outside of the optimal range, not just outside of the lab provided reference range.

Blood Tests

Conventional blood work to assess blood cell counts, cholesterol values, hormone levels, nutrient deficiencies, inflammatory and autoimmune markers etc,

Food Sensitivity Testing

A simple blood test that can help determine which foods may be triggering symptoms in your body. Testing assesses hundreds of different foods, and a variety of different panels are available.

Saliva Hormone Testing

Hormones such as female, male  and stress hormones can be assessed using saliva. The results can give insight into deficiencies and excesses. Saliva testing measures the hormones that actually entered your tissues, where as blood tests measure what is in the blood and may enter the cells.

Urine Testing

Urine testing can done in office or through a laboratory. A basic urinalysis can give insight into many disease processes, including urinary tract infections, kidney diseases and diabetes.  Urine tests can also assess some hormones, essential and toxic elements, and thyroid function.

Hair Mineral Analysis

Hair can be used to assess both essential (nutrient) and toxin elements in the body. Hair will be representative of the period of time it took the hair to grow. Both head and pubic hair can be used in testing.
